As far back as 1623 there are records of a workshop of the forerunner of this brand, still a leader in the Apulian territory in the production of typical traditional ceramics, so-called ceramics of use, i.e., artifacts used for the preservation of both liquid and solid foods, made in the “putea capasonara.”

In the Faenza workshop, on the other hand, majolica for the table and kitchen, household goods, tiles, etc., as well as artistic majolica, intended for an upper-class and/or aristocratic clientele, were produced. At that time the fief of Taranto belonged to Gregorio Castelli, Duke of Genoa, acquired by the heirs of Isabella of Aragon. Following this personage moved a number of Ligurian potters imbued with the artistic culture of northern Europe including the skilled master Francisco Nicola Fasano, who originated his activity precisely in a large cave entrusted to him by his illustrious patron whose location is still preserved.
